Leaders — changing organisations
Authority, role and organisation — getting below the surface of relationships to improve impact and effectiveness in the workplace
This programme caught the imagination of eight headteachers in Brent and resulted in an exponential rise in their schools’ performance. Examination results improved by as much as 30%. All were graded ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’ in Ofsted inspections.
What have heads said about the programme?
“I understand better the processes of
change and have new insights into the
unconscious processes in systems and
organisations. For example, I have more
knowledge about the impact of change
on me and other people.”
“As a new head, I have found this
programme enormously supportive. I no
longer feel so lonely and I realise that we
all face the same issues however
experienced we are.”
The programme is designed for those who are:
- Developing leadership and team work in challenging situations, eg cross-service and multi-agency contexts; school reorganisation; 14-19 consortia; federated schools and trusts
- Improving relationships where people may be blocking progress in key areas
- Wanting a deeper understanding of concepts like power, authority and accountability in the context of new approaches to leadership
Process
Changing organisations brings together Best Practice Network’s proven track record in leadership development with the unique style of ‘working below the surface’ of the Tavistock Consultancy Service (TCS). This approach enables participants to find their own solutions to the challenges they face whilst supporting thinking about the whole system. It improves understanding of dimensions of school life that are usually hidden but often present obstacles to progress and change.
- ‘Taster’ event to outline the main purposes, processes and content
- 3-day residential conference, ‘Being a Senior Leader’, e.g. Headteacher, Principal, Head of Service, Chief Executive
- Individual role consultation and diagnostic assessment to plan future events/activities
- Six facilitated work discussion groups
- Observation and review of team relationships in other organisations/sectors
- Review, evaluation of impact and next steps
- Individual role consultation and diagnostic assessment to review progress and plan the next steps
How is it delivered and what is the cost?
The programme is delivered by experienced TCS and BPN facilitators (facilitator participant ratio 1:8). The cost of the programme, including the residential, is £2,795 + VAT.
Additional modules, including executive coaching, are also available.
