ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management

The Award in First Line Management is a concise qualification which gives an introduction to the basic skills, knowledge, and understanding required by today's first line manager. The mandatory unit in 'Solving Problems and Making Decisions' is designed to develop practical techniques for tackling managerial problems and decisions from gathering and interpreting information through to the effective communication of outcomes.

Who is this for: 

The programme is designed for team leaders and first line managers with a day to day need to train/coach others in a team.

There are no formal entry requirements but candidates will normally be practicing or aspiring first line managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.

What are the benefits: 

The ILM Level 3 qualification in First Line Management has been specially designed to give practising or aspiring first line managers a solid foundation in their formal development as a manager.

The programme will enable you to:

  • increase your confidence in your role
  • evaluate the effectiveness of learning in your workplace
  • develop your skills in leading and supporting others
  • gain accreditation from the Institute of Leadership and Management

and in the workplace, it will equip you:

  • to develop the skills necessary to work efficiently and effectively as a manager
  • to improve communications, as you gain a better understanding of the behaviours and learning styles of those around you
  • with the skills to plan and implement strategic decisions
How is it assessed: 

The programme is accredited via the production of an assessed portfolio. To obtain the ILM Award candidates must:

  • Attend all three workshops
  • Complete two pieces of written work each between 1,500 to 2,500 words
How is it delivered: 

This three day programme spread over six months includes:

  • 3 face to face workshops
  • Online 'Skillset' module
  • Online discussion forum
  • Tutorial support

Each workshop will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Lunch will be provided on each day and refreshments made available on arrival and during mid-morning and afternoon breaks.
