NASENCO Case Study: Juliet Mancey

About the impact of participating:

It has made me more aware of what I am doing, and the impact that this is having on the SEND children in the school. I look more critically at the practices within school and whether we are doing them because that's what we've done for years, or if they are having any benefit?

Programme/activity in practice:

I am more confident of bringing new initiatives into school, and because I am doing this course, colleagues think that I really know what I'm talking about! I am experiencing less objections from other members of staff.

Good practice demonstrated:

The best example I have is that I culled the SEN register! I felt more confident about questioning why children were on the register. If they are one sublevel below their expected level, I am more confident to ask are they genuine SEN? Is it the child, or is it that the teaching hasn't been targeted appropriately at them?

Outcomes and impact on e.g. leadership, teaching, learning, standards:

I feel that I am a stronger leader. I feel more confident in advising teachers and TAs, and they listen! I did the TA performance managements and I felt that I could confidently give feedback and enable them to move on in a professional capacity in their work.
