There will be three whole day sessions spread over two academic terms. Individual workshops will take a theme that is developed on the day and followed up with tasks back in school between the face-to-face sessions.
Typical themes include:
-
Where are you now and where do you want to be? The first session will help you to identify your strengths and development needs and provide you with tools for reflecting on your practice and identifying your learning needs and interests.
-
Coaching and mentoring: One of the most effective ways to lead others is through working with them in a one to one supportive situation. As a mentor or coach you need to have well practised skills in questioning, listening, action planning and reviewing progress. This workshop will provide practice in using these skills and help you to gain confidence in providing professional support for colleagues. It can also lead to an opportunity to gain accreditation for coaching and mentoring with the Institute for Leadership and Management.
-
Taking on a leadership role: You will explore your leadership potential and practice communication and other skills to develop relevant skills to leading others and working on a team.
-
Current initiatives and issues affecting staff working in Children's Services: This workshop will help you extend your knowledge and understanding to set your own work within a broader context.
-
Developing a specific curriculum focus: This optional part of the programme will involve you undertaking a small scale project in your school - the choice of focus will be yours, in consultation with a line manager from your school. You will later present your findings to others in the group.
