The series aims to provide a set of valuable resource for candidates preparing for EYP validation and also has professional relevance to others in the Early Years field. Mary Whalley was the main author of one of the first books in the series Leading Practice in Early Years Settings and case study material from real EYPs formed a significant element of the book. Shirley Allen contributed to this first book. Shirley and Mary are now co-authoring a further book in the series focussing here on quality/effective practice for publication in June 2010. Again the authors wish to use real case study material and would be grateful if you could take the time to complete as much of this initial questionnaire as you feel able and then indicate if you are willing for your comments/ experiences/ feedback to be used in the book. It would be helpful if you could also indicate contact details and whether you are willing for follow-up interviews at a later date. Given the time constraints, it will not be possible for follow-up before the book is written (by mid-January, 2010) but Shirley and Mary may be interested in developing your responses into a small piece of research and prepare a paper for publication in an Early Years journal later next year. Please be assured that your responses will be stored confidentially and, if used in the book, we will negotiate with you whether your actual first name (no surname) or a pseudonym is used. In any case, there will be no details to identify your setting or children within it. You retain the right to withdraw from the book project at any time. THIS IS A WORD DOCUMENT SO FEEL FREE TO ADJUST THE SIZE OF THE SPACES ACCORDINGLY. Your full name .. [Please note only first name or pseudonym will be used in the book to be agreed by you] Type of setting .. Your role in the setting Your academic qualifications (post-school) .. a) When you achieved EYPS . b) With which provider? .. Please note there are no wrong answers to the following questions we are seeking to create a fuller understanding of the EYP role!! Please feel free to miss out any sections you would prefer not to complete. What has been your experience of leading practice as the EYFS becomes established? In what ways do you believe your own study pathways and/or preparation for EYPS have made you a MORE effective practitioner? The following questions ask you, where possible, to provide an example/examples from your practice of: Your distinctive contribution to childrens learning experiences and/or how you have supported others in providing effective opportunities for the children How you believe you have promoted equality practices as part of your role and/or supported others in doing so. If you can offer examples of how you have worked with families on this, this would be very helpful. How you feel you have made a significant contribution in creating enabling environments in your setting: INDOORS OUTDOORS THE EMOTIONAL ENVIRONMENT How you engage in sustained shared thinking with the children in your setting. What support have you offered to colleagues in understanding this dimension of their role? As an EYP, what do you believe are the key quality indicators within Early Years practice? What/whom do you believe has shaped and informed your understanding of quality? Since achieving EYPS, what has been your experience of continuing professional development opportunities? Have any of these been specifically for EYPs? What guidance on effective/quality practice was helpful for YOU as you compiled your EYP tasks and prepared for the assessment visit? Is there anything further you would have valued? Thank you very much.
