HLTA Assessment and Results

Best Practice Network is a Regional Provider of Assessment, working with the Training and Development Agency for Schools to prepare and assesses candidates for Higher Level Teaching Assistant Status (HLTA) in the South West and West Midland Regions. We have extensive, quality assured experience and credibility in both supporting and assessing candidates to achieve the status — we have been involved since the beginning of HLTA.

The Assessment Visit takes place within 12 weeks of the final day of preparation. The assessor receives the candidate’s tasks before the assessment date and, following evaluation of the tasks, will undertake a three hour visit to the school to evaluate the file of supporting documents and meet with the candidate, headteacher (or representative) and one or more teachers. No decision is communicated on the day of the visit as rigorous moderation processes will follow.

Results

Results letters are issued 2 weeks after the moderation event (that is, approximately 6-8 weeks following the assessment visit). Letters are sent directly to the candidate’s home address and therefore it is essential to we are notified if this is likely to change.

HLTA Case Study Carol Blount

Having worked at Plym View for nearly 20 years, I had been working for some time at a higher level, holding the title of Senior TA, leading meetings, representing other TAs and coordinating appraisals, but gaining HLTA status provided the opportunity to have this recognised. Although I enjoy my work and feel valued and supported by colleagues, I often felt frustrated that there was no reward, either in status or in salary for my qualifications, skills and experience. The head teacher was very supportive and eager that I should gain HLTA status. It wasn't difficult to gather evidence in order to meet the required standards.

My self-esteem has been boosted, I have gained recognition and respect from colleagues and the experience has encouraged me to try for further professional development. Having recently completed my Foundation degree, I am planning to continue by enrolling on a BA(Hons) course next year. The sky's the limit!
