External Leadership Mentors support participants
throughout the programme and focus participants on observable and
verifiable outcomes in practice in their school
The School-based Coach enables participants to personalise their activities in order to respond to their identified learning needs and development in their particular school. The school-based coach is essential if your application is to be accepted, for more information please download Coaching in Leadership Pathways. Coaches
will receive one day of training and support which is free of charge. At least six coaching sessions are required during the programme.
Online Communitiesare developed through NCSL's Learning Gateway to support continual
national and regional learning.
Programme Structure
Following a personal learning needs assessment, participants follow an appropriate, tailored learning programme which involves a mixture of face to face days, online units, multimedia and school based activities.
- Initial Online Registration
- Three core Programme Days supported by two facilitators:
- Day One: Sets the tone and direction of participant’s learning
- Day Two: Mid-programme review and includes the setting up of Practice Visits
- Day Three: Integration day consolidates learning from the programme.
- Online Units which participants choose according
to the outcomes of their learning needs assessments. The four
Online Unit Areas are:
- Stepping up to Leadership
- Leading Learning and Teaching
- Resourcing Change
- Extending the Community of Learners
- After completing a unit participants consolidate their learning through a
series of activities evaluating their own leadership in relation to the
issues of the unit and identifying realistic goals for improving their
leadership covering:
- contribution at whole school level
- team level
- outcomes for pupils
- Face-to-face Skills Days are designed around
key leadership skills. Examples of Skills Days include
creative problem solving, dealing with challenging people,
leading high performance teams and effective influencing skills
