Playwork for Early Years and Childcare Workers (CACHE Level 3 Award) will help participants develop transferable skills to enable them to work in both playwork and early years settings.

It is underpinned by the Playwork Principles and designed to support professional development whilst improving the quality of play opportunities for children and young people.

Why do this programme?

The programme covers aspects of playwork not usually covered in early years qualifications, for example, working with 5-15 year olds. It provides the opportunity to gain a recognised 'full and relevant' Level 3 Playwork qualification (in only 8 weeks). There are no exams: the assessment is assignment based and the training is free to eligible participants. Register now using this downloadable application form.

Programme Delivery

The programme will be delivered through three face-to-face sessions over a period of approximately 8 weeks. These will focus on the theory and underpinning knowledge aspects and discussion of practical tasks. In between these sessions, participants will meet up twice in small active learning groups to discuss and develop their learning and provide mutual support. These also provide participants with the opportunity to visit each other's settings and share good practice.

The qualification is assessed by two assignments, one for each unit:

Unit 1 - The theory and practice of children and young people's play: In this unit, you will explore the theory and practice of children's and young people's play and how to support this.

Unit 2 - Aspects of Playwork practice: In this unit, you will gain skills and knowledge of a range of playwork practice issues specific to working with children and young people. Participants will plan and organise a practical session where they can demonstrate their skills and understanding in a playwork environment.
