This apprenticeship is for people who want to make a real difference in the lives of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. You’ll learn how to give pupils the support, patience and encouragement they need to feel included, valued and able to succeed — whether they’re living with dyslexia, autism, speech and language needs, or challenges around confidence and wellbeing.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you’ll be the steady hand and friendly face that helps children feel safe, confident and ready to learn every day.
Your training can be fully funded via the Apprenticeship Levy. For non-levy schools, co-funding or Levy transfer can cover most or all costs.

The TA Level 3 programme is delivered through a blend of online study, monthly webinars, and regular tutor visits, with coursework submitted to an e-portfolio. Learners receive structured teaching, six-weekly reviews, and ongoing support, leading to a final End Point Assessment after 15–18 months.

Learners on this apprenticeship can choose to develop specialist expertise alongside their core pathway. Around six months into the programme, they select at least one specialism from SEND, Early Years, EAL, Behaviour, or Assessment, with the option to pursue more than one depending on agreement with their tutor or employer. Each completed specialism is recognised with an additional certificate, giving learners tailored professional development in their chosen area.

Develop practical strategies for supporting learners with SLCN, SEMH, dyslexia, autism and other needs, including how to provide adaptive support and make reasonable adjustments so every pupil can thrive.
Gain the knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality EYFS practice in nursery and reception settings, building strong foundations for children’s learning and development.
Learn effective approaches for supporting pupils at different stages of English acquisition, helping them build confidence, language skills, and full access to the curriculum.
Understand positive behaviour strategies and practical methods that keep learners engaged, motivated and ready to succeed in the classroom.
Develop skills in formative assessment, including checking prior knowledge, giving meaningful feedback, and using assessment to support progress and achievement.
Step into a leadership role where you lead learning activities, support assessment, and take on greater responsibility within the classroom.
Deepen your expertise in a chosen area and expand your role by supporting planning and delivering lessons alongside teachers.
Use the skills and evidence from your apprenticeship to progress onto teacher training routes, preparing you for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
