Who is the Thrive Early Years Lead Practitioner Apprenticeship for?
This programme is designed for experienced early years practitioners, room leaders, senior practitioners and deputy managers who want to strengthen their leadership of practice while developing a deeper understanding of children’s social and emotional development.
It is particularly suited to practitioners who work directly with babies and young children, support colleagues in their setting and want to play a more active role in helping children feel safe, secure, understood and ready to learn.
The programme helps participants become confident lead practitioners who can model high quality early years practice, support children’s wellbeing, understand behaviour as communication and help create nurturing environments where every child can thrive.
Developed specifically for early years settings, this apprenticeship supports settings to build leadership capacity from within. By developing practitioners who can lead quality practice, support colleagues and apply Thrive informed approaches to child development, settings can strengthen provision, improve consistency and support better outcomes for children.
This apprenticeship is designed for:
- Early years practitioners who are ready to progress into a more influential role within their setting
- Room leaders and senior practitioners who want to lead practice with greater confidence
- Early years educators who want to deepen their understanding of behaviour, wellbeing and emotional development
- Practitioners who support children with social, emotional or developmental needs and want more practical strategies to use in day to day practice
- Deputy managers and aspiring leaders who want to strengthen the quality of care, learning and development across their setting
Developed with Thrive
This programme combines Best Practice Network’s experience in delivering high quality early years apprenticeships with specialist Thrive content focused on children’s social and emotional development.
The Thrive Approach helps practitioners understand the links between relationships, emotional development, behaviour and learning. It gives early years professionals practical ways to support children’s wellbeing, confidence, resilience and readiness to engage with early learning.
Through this apprenticeship, learners develop both the knowledge and leadership skills of an Early Years Lead Practitioner, alongside a deeper understanding of how nurturing relationships, secure attachments and emotionally supportive environments help children flourish.
This gives settings a practical way to grow confident lead practitioners who can support children directly, guide colleagues and help embed consistent, relationship centred practice across the setting.
Why do early years settings need Thrive Early Years Lead Practitioners?
Early childhood is a critical time for building the foundations of learning, communication, emotional security and healthy relationships. When children feel safe, understood and supported, they are more able to explore, play, communicate and learn.
Many early years settings are supporting children who need additional help with emotional regulation, confidence, transitions, relationships, behaviour or readiness for learning. These needs can affect how children engage with adults, peers, routines and the wider early years curriculum.
Thrive Early Years Lead Practitioners help settings respond to these needs with confidence. They can support children through warm, consistent relationships, adapt practice to meet developmental needs and help colleagues understand what children may be communicating through their behaviour.
For settings, this creates stronger in house expertise. Rather than relying only on external support, leaders can develop practitioners who understand both high quality early years practice and the importance of social and emotional development.
The result is a more confident team, more consistent support for children and a setting culture where wellbeing, development and learning are closely connected.
What will you learn?
You will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead high quality early years practice while supporting children’s social, emotional and developmental needs.
Alongside the core Early Years Lead Practitioner apprenticeship, you will explore Thrive informed approaches to relationships, behaviour, child development and wellbeing. You will learn how to apply this knowledge in practice, support colleagues and contribute to a nurturing environment where children can feel secure, confident and ready to learn.
By the end of the programme, participants will be equipped to act as confident lead practitioners who can support children directly, model effective practice and help strengthen provision across their setting.
