What is EYITT Primary Foundation Stage Pathway?

The EYITT Primary Foundation Stage Pathway is a graduate level route to Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) designed for professionals working in school-based Nursery and Reception provision.

The programme prepares trainees to meet the Teachers’ Standards Early Years, enabling them to become highly skilled early years specialists who enrich the EYFS provision in school-based settings.

This programme trains Early Years Teachers to work in:

  • Foundation Stage 1 (Nursery)
  • Foundation Stage 2 (Reception)

Training is grounded in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), supporting practitioners to secure strong outcomes across all seven areas of learning and development.

Trainees spend the majority of their training in their school setting while developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to meet the Teachers’ Standards Early Years. They will be required to undertake a short placement in a PVI or group-based setting to gain experience of teaching the full 0-5 age range.

Training is grounded in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), supporting practitioners to secure strong outcomes across all seven areas of learning and development.

What are the benefits for schools?

EYITT Primary Foundation Stage supports schools to strengthen the quality of their early years provision in line with DfE expectations.

Schools benefit from:

  • Graduate level Early Years Teachers who meet national Teachers’ Standards Early Years

  • Greater consistency between Nursery, Reception and Year 1
  • Increased leadership capacity within the Foundation Stage
