90,000 more pupils taking core academic GCSEs than in 2010

The government’s plan for education has helped to dramatically increase the number of pupils taking core academic subjects at GCSE. New school-level performance table figures show that 90,000 more pupils took the challenging EBacc compared to 2010, an increase of 71% in 4 years.
Figures also show more girls than ever are taking maths and physics at A level.

Ofsted has confirmed some of the most significant changes to the inspection of education in its history, following an extensive programme of public consultation.
Alongside the changes to inspection, Ofsted is making significant changes to the way it contracts with, trains and manages inspectors.

New headteacher standards and review of ITT published

BPN Early Years Quality Assurance Agency Report

During the early autumn we were subject to a detailed Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) audit of our Early Years Teacher Status programme. The audit team concluded that we had made commendable progress on our action plan and that we had maintained all strengths identified in previous audits. Commendable progress is the highest grading QAA awards.

Hellos and Goodbyes

We have had a number of changes happen within BPN this month. We have said goodbye to one of the BPN lifers: Julie Dollin who left BPN last week (5th December) to start a new job with Bristol City Council. Katie Trace from our Events and Resources team has also waved a temporary farewell as she is off on a year’s maternity leave, but she will be popping in throughout the year.

Maths and science must be the top priority in our schools, says Prime Minister

The government is launching a major push on maths, science and technology to equip more pupils with the skills needed to work and succeed in high-tech and science-based industries, Prime Minister David Cameron will announce. 17,500 maths and science teachers will be trained, a new computer science GCSE will focus on coding, and world-first code college will be launched.
