BPN's Commitment to Sustainability
BPN's Commitment to Sustainability
At Best Practice Network, we're committed to making a positive impact, not just within the education sector but how we operate as an operation.
Since becoming a Planet Mark Certified Business in 2023, we've worked closely with them to measure, monitor and reduce our carbon emissions.
From 2024, we've also been offsetting our carbon emissions by purchasing verified carbon credits via Gold Standard, supporting the Institutional Improved Cookstoves for Schools and Institutions in Uganda project. This project helps schools and institutions reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions, and improve local environmental outcomes.
Over the past two years, our contributions have supported the retirement of:
- 117 tonnes of CO₂ emissions in FY24
- 379 tonnes of CO₂ emissions in FY25
Our Impact Goes Beyond Carbon
Creating positive change isn't just about reducing environmental impact. We also strive to generate social value through our people, partnerships and investment in the UK economy.
According to our latest Social Value Report, Best Practice Network generated over £47.7 million in social value from 2024-2026. Key contributors included investment in UK suppliers, spending with SMEs, employee development and apprenticeship opportunities.
The report highlights:
- Over £35 million generated through spending with SME suppliers in the UK.
- 314 people employed across the organisation across the UK.
- Ongoing investment in accredited training and professional development for our employees.
- Support for apprenticeships, volunteering and community initiatives.
Reducing our impact while we grow
As Best Practice Network continues to grow, we're remaining focused on reducing our environmental impact wherever possible.
Alongside offsetting our operational carbon emissions, we've implemented several initiatives designed to reduce our footprint across the business, including:
- Operating our head office on 100% renewable electricity.
- Ensuring 100% of waste from our head office is recycled or used to generate energy from waste.
- Supporting hybrid working and reducing unnecessary travel through technology.
- Working with Planet Mark to measure, monitor and improve our environmental performance.
- Promoting sustainable travel initiatives, including public transport and cycle-to-work schemes.
We also work to minimise the environmental impact of our marketing activity. Our printed marketing materials are produced using a carbon-positive approach that has resulted in the planting of 12,840 trees to date, helping to offset the emissions associated with print production.
Looking to the future
Our commitment to sustainability is part of a wider long-term strategy to reduce emissions and support the UK's journey to Net Zero.
